Your round-up of the latest Man Utd stories as transfer deadline day closes in.

Manchester United fell to their first defeat of the season on Saturday, with Joao Pedro’s late header handing Brighton and Hove Albion a 2-1 win at the AMEX. Amad Diallo cancelled out Danny Welbeck’s first-half opener on the hour mark but a lapse in defensive concentration allowed Simon Adingra space to pick out Pedro at the back post, his 95th-minute effort virtually the last kick of the game. Erik ten Hag’s side must now regroup ahead of a massive return to Old Trafford on Sunday, with Liverpool the visitors.

Before that, club chiefs must first conclude any transfer business with plenty still to do before Friday’s deadline. Talks are continuing over a deal for Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Manuel Ugarte, while Ten Hag is keen to offload those on the fringes including Jadon Sancho. It’s set to be a busy few days at Old Trafford and ManchesterWorld has rounded up some of the latest stories surrounding the Reds.

Sterling stance

United have been linked with a surprise move for Raheem Sterling in recent days and reports suggest the winger would not rule out such a move. The Daily Mail claim Sterling could be open to joining Ten Hag’s squad for the upcoming campaign, despite spending the majority of his career at fierce rivals Manchester City and Liverpool.

Sterling is expected to leave Stamford Bridge this week after failing to make Enzo Maresca’s squad in any of this season’s games so far, with the new Blues boss essentially admitting he is free to find football elsewhere. Chelsea have been linked with a sensational move for Sancho and there has even been suggestions they could offer Sterling the other way.

The 29-year-old won four Premier League titles, plus multiple domestic cups, with Manchester City and burst onto the scene as a young forward with Liverpool, both of whom share fierce rivalries with United. But that is not thought to be a deterrent for Sterling, who is desperate to play regular football in the hope of earning an England call-up.

Sancho latest

Chelsea are not the only team eyeing a possible move for Sancho and reports have now named Bayern Munich as a possible destination for the 24-year-old. HITC suggest Vincent Kompany is ‘interested’ in signing the winger as part of a growing English contingent including Harry Kane and Eric Dier.

Sancho is expected to leave United before Friday, having been left out of the matchday squad for a second time at Brighton over the weekend. Juventus remain in talks over a possible loan deal while Borussia Dortmund would also be keen, should a temporary move become possible.

At the moment, United would obviously prefer a permanent exit but might struggle to find suitors, given they are aiming to recoup a large portion of the £73m they spent on him in 2021. Club chiefs remain in talks with prospective suitors in the hope of getting a deal over the line before the window slams shut.
