Declan Rice has been speaking about his decision to snub interest from the likes of Manchester United and Manchester City and sign for Arsenal in a £105m deal instead.

And the key reason was Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta.

Speaking to Joe Cole ahead of England's 3-1 win over Scotland, Rice said: “I have to say the manager, Mikel.

“From the moment that I met him I knew he was the one that I wanted to take care of the next part of my career and I just had that gut feeling that Arsenal would bet he club even though there was other interest.

“Towards the end of my time at West Ham the players we had were unbelievable. But I would say the difference is the way now I’m having to play is much more advanced.”

The Rice deal in the summer eclipsed the £72m Arsenal paid for Nicolas Pepe from Lille in 2019. It was also a record transfer fee between two British clubs.
