Pressure building on Manchester United to follow Gareth Southgate’s reported stance on the controversial forward.

Greenwood continues to be discussed in the wake of charges being dropped following allegations of attempted rape. The charges were dropped by CPS due to withdrawal of key witnesses, meaning there was “no longer a realistic prospect of conviction”.

Since then, the United star has been asked to stay away from the club as the Red Devils put together their own internal investigation. Opinion is split over whether Greenwood should have a future in football, let alone at Old Trafford, given the videos that emerged around the time of the allegations.

According to The Athletic, the United dressing room is split over the Englishman’s possible return, while it’s also claimed the club are still unsure over whether they will keep the player. It’s reported Greenwood could be asked to explain his actions on TV, or the club could also send him on educational courses if he is to have a future at Old Trafford.

Meanwhile, Greenwood continues to pick up his £75,000-per-week salary, even as he stays away from the club. The forward is under contract until 2025.

Elsewhere, The Sun are suggesting that Gareth Southgate has ruled out ever selecting Greenwood again for England. Greenwood, who is still only 21, has just one England senior appearance so far, and for as long as Southgate is in charge, it seems his Three Lions career could be over.

That reported stance from Southgate has only piled further on United to make their stance clear, and many want them to be just as ruthless in their approach. Though, it seems United will continue to take their time over the process, especially given Erik ten Hag won’t want any distractions to his side given their impressive progress so far this season.
