We’ve looked over the numbers and there are four Manchester-based in the top-10 highest-rated players this season.

With the Premier League season over two-thirds of the way through, we have a good idea of who will be among the nominees for player of the season.

Stars from Arsenal and Manchester City will likely be the prime candidates for the three individual awards at the end of the campaign - the PFA, FWA and Premier League Player of the Year Awards.

The latter was won by Kevin De Bruyne last season, while Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah collected the other two prizes in 2021/22. This campaign the favourites among the bookmakers include Erling Haaland, Martin Odegaard, Bukayo Saka and Marcus Rashford. Yet, the statistics say none of the quartet are the best performing player this term.

WhoScored use algorithms and data to score every player out of 10 for an individual game. An average can then be worked out across the season and the highest score would statistically be the best player during the campaign.

WhoScored say their ratings are: “Based on a unique, comprehensive statistical algorithm, calculated live during the game. There are over 200 raw statistics included in the calculation of a player’s/team’s rating, weighted according to their influence within the game. Every event of importance is taken into account, with a positive or negative effect on ratings weighted in relation to its area on the pitch and its outcome.”

With that in mind, we’ve had a look at the top-10 players so far this season using WhoScored’s ratings, with the shortlist featuring stars from Brighton & Hove Albion, Manchester United, Arsenal, City, Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United…
