Premier League table since Carabao Cup final shows difference between Man Utd & Liverpool form - gallery

How have Manchester United fared since the start of spring, compared to Liverpool and Newcastle United?

With just a handful of games remaining in the Premier League season, it looks like it could be a fight between Manchester United and Liverpool for the final Champions League spot.

Newcastle United and Brighton & Hove Albion are also involved in the shake up, but the latter have perhaps too much work to do to catch United and Liverpool, while Eddie Howe’s Magpies look likely to take third place.

It leaves the great North-West rivals who could battle it out for fourth place. The Red Devils have a one-point advantage over Jurgen Klopp’s men at this stage, and the Merseyside club have played a game more. United also have a kinder run and have to place four sides who aren’t in the races for the title, European spots or to avoid the drop, with Wolverhampton Wanderers, Chelsea and Fulham to visit Old Trafford in May, in addition to a trip to Bournemouth.

However, Erik ten Hag will be alarmed by United’s slump in form and they’ve lost the last two in the league, and it’s been a longer-term problem for the Red Devils, who have won just four of 10 league matches since the Carabao Cup triumph over Newcastle at the end of February.

Speaking last month, Ten Hag rejected the notion that his team had lost motivation since collecting the first piece of silverware of the season. “I think we also after the Carabao Cup we won many games, we beat in a really good performance, [Real] Betis, we beat West Ham United also,” he said.

“We had also good performances. We are in the final stage of the season so you have to be physically and mentally fit and that is the responsibility of everyone in the team. Everyone must stick together and stick to the plan.I trust my players to give good performances and get the best results.”

But how does United’s form since the Carabao Cup final on 26 February compare with Liverpool, Newcastle and the other Premier League sides? Below, we’ve compiled a table beginning the day after United’s Carabao Cup success…
