Patrice Evra has questioned why former Manchester United stars David Beckham and Rio Ferdinand failed to feature in Saturday’s Legends charity game against Liverpool.

United lost the match 3-1 at Old Trafford, with Luis Garcia, Mark Gonzalez (2) scoring for the visitors, while Dimitar Berbatov netted a penalty for United in the second half.

The match saw over 48,000 in attendance and raised over £1.3m for the Manchester Foundation, with a second leg to be staged at Anfield in September.

But the loss evidently frustrated Evra, who continued his feud with Pep Guardiola after the game, while also questioning United legends Beckham and Ferdinand for not playing, with the Frenchman frustrated that more English players didn’t show up.

“Yes, it’s always a pleasure to be back home at Old Trafford,” Evra told ManchesterWorld after the game. “So many fans showed up. It’s a great occasion for the Manchester United Foundation.

“Unfortunately we got beat, and when you get beat by Liverpool, unfortunately friendly games don’t exist. I’m really sorry to the fans and the second leg will be at Anfield and I hope more English players will show up.

“I don’t understand when United need you, no matter if you’re injured, you have to come and support the club. I’m really disappointed because not everyone showed up today.”

Asked which players he wished had been involved for United, Evra responded: “Many people. [Paul] Scholesy, but he was injured. [David] Beckham, all the legends, Rio [Ferdinand]. I can mention many players. I don’t want to mention names, but you know what I mean.”

Evra also made similar remarks in an interview with MUTV, saying: “Where are the English players? I live in Dubai. I came from there. When Man United call, you answer. I think more legends should be here today. When United calls you, you have to be there.”
