Manchester United are said to be pushing for a deal to sign a Bundesliga midfielder with star potential.

Manchester United continue to be linked with a move for Bayern Munich star Ryan Gravenberch.

Erik ten Hag and the club’s recruitment staff have been busy this summer, with United snapping up Mason Mount, Andre Onana and Rasmus Hojlund. Outgoings haven’t been so significant, and the Red Devils will need to balance the books before the end of the window, but they could also complete further signings.

Midfield is an area where United are in need of more quality, and they could yet offload one of Fred or Scott McTominay.

Fiorentina star Sofyan Amrabat has been linked, but he is not the only one, with Bayern Munich star Ryan Gravenberch also being linked with a move. The 21-year-old was signed as a top prospect by Bayern, but while he has made 24 league appearances since joining the club in 2022, he is usually a supplamentary player.

It’s not clear whether he would have a different role at United, but the Red Devils are said to be keen to take advantage of Gravenberch’s lack of play-time at Bayern, and they are not alone, with Liverpool also needing midfield reinforcements.

Transfer insider Fabrizio Romano has tweeted: “Ryan Gravenberch situation, same as three days ago. Man United and Liverpool both called to be informed on situation — depends on Bayern, now still insisting to keep him. One to watch until #DeadlineDay.”

United will find it hard to pull off a deal while Bayern are resistant to selling, but they may well have better luck with Amrabat, who will be sold by Fiorentina if the right offer comes in. Either way, it is looking more likely that United will move to sign someone in midfield, even if they do have a growing need to seal some sort of significant sale, be it McTominay or another valuable asset who is not going to be a big part of Ten Hag’s plans.
