Man Utd showed huge signs of improvement in their 2-2 draw with Liverpool FC at the weekend.

Manchester United took a step closer towards their Best XI in their deserved draw with Liverpool at the weekend.

Ruben Amorim made three changes from the side that lost at home to Newcastle a week ago, with Bruno Fernandes and Manuel Ugarte both returning from suspension, while Kobbie Mainoo earned a start after his impressive cameo in the previous match.

Liverpool were the strong favourites heading into the Anfield clash, but found themselves up against a rejuvenated United side who defended well and offered a constant threat whenever they broke on the counter-attack. It was just about their best performance under the new head coach and should act as a blueprint for them to build upon in the weeks ahead.

Amorim could be boosted by the return of injured trio Victor Lindelof, Luke Shaw, and Mason Mount in the coming weeks, while he is also expected to rotate his side in order to help them cope with the fixture demands. There is also a faint hope of adding at least one signing this month, though any arrivals will depend on moving players on first.

Andre Onana proved his worth in goal with some fine stops at Anfield, while both Harry Maguire and Lisandro Martinez were rejuvenated in central defence. Matthijs de Ligt regressed in the second half and was outshone by substitute Leny Yoro, who made a heroic tackle in the final few minutes of the match. It seems only a matter of time before the Frenchman is starting games regularly and firmly in their new strongest line up.

Ugarte and Mainoo both shone in central midfield and Noussair Mazraoui and Diogo Dalot impressed in the wing-back roles. One of them could drop out of the side if a left wing-back is signed this month, though they are currently both certain starters as well. Bruno Fernandes and Amad Diallo are huge figures in the current tactical set-up and Rasmus Hojlund remains the best option through the middle until another striker can be signed.

Amorim needs a new wing-back and striker to take this team to the next level, but for now, he can improve the side by giving Yoro a proper chance at centre-back.

United's current best XI: Onana; Yoro, Maguire, Martinez; Mazroaui, Mainoo, Ugarte, Dalot; Amad, Fernandes, Hojlund.
