Ole Gunnar Solskjaer blames ‘inconsistent’ VAR for shock defeat to Villa

Kortney Hause’s 88th minute header cemented an historic victory for Aston Villa at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon.

It’s a result that has been years in the making for Villa who finally got their long awaited win against a star-studded Manchester United side.

However, United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer claimed their winner should have been ruled out.

“Unfortunately we got a goal against us on a corner that you see the inconsistencies again - VAR and decision making,” he said.

“Watkins is clearly standing on, or he’s touching David De Gea as the header has gone so he’s offside or it’s a foul.

“The linesman did well - reported it or called it into VAR but they turned the decision down unfortunately, so bad decisions again.”

Refereeing decisions aside, Solskjaer did acknowledge that his side didn’t perform well enough on the day and did give Villa some credit.

“We should have slowed the game down at times but then we’ve got attackers that are very good on transitions with the speed and the skill and sometimes that decision then was rushed and a bit hasty,” he added.

“We didn’t have enough control even though we’ve got 60% possession and 30 shots or whatever but still we know Aston Villa are a team that are really good on transition as well with Watkins, McGinn, Ings and Ramsey.

“That wasn’t what hurt us though, it was the corner kick at the end and unfortunately and Bruno with one of his very very rare misses.”
