Luke Shaw has claimed Manchester United were ‘just not good enough’ in the 2-0 loss to West Ham United on Saturday.

The Red Devils were the better side for the opening 70 minutes and dominated possession, but couldn’t create the chances to kill West Ham off. Two late goals from Jarrod Bowen and Mohammed Kudus ultimately saw the Hammers take all three points.

United’s inability to deal with setbacks once again reared its head and the defeat at the London Stadium was Erik ten Hag's 13th this season, the highest number before Christmas in a campaign since 1930.

"Just not good enough really,” was Luke Shaw's blunt verdict, when speaking to TNT Sports after the match. “We have to win games and that's it. We keep losing games and points and making it hard for ourselves.

"Especially that second half, not good enough. First half we controlled the game, we had chances again and if we score the first goal maybe the result is different but we didn't and we suffered in the second half.

“From the start of the second half, we weren't the same and it showed, which is why I'm here now and we lost three points again.

“We have to stay positive,” he added. “This is Manchester United, one of the biggest clubs in the world and it’s not good enough, we know that. We have to dig deep, look ourselves in the mirror and question ourselves and go from there.”

United also failed to score for the fourth match in a row in the 2-0 loss, that's the club’s longest run since 1992, and Shaw pointed to two reasons that the Red Devils are struggling to find the back of the net.

“It's tough to think what's going on. I think we're not creating enough and when we do, on the other hand, we're not clinical.

"I think maybe it could be a lack of confidence at the moment, sometimes that's normal in football and it happens, but we have to try and stay positive because we've got another big game coming up against Aston Villa.”
