Lisandro Martinez and Casemiro have both returned to full training but it could still be a while before they feature for the first team.

The pair have not featured for the club in recent months due to injury, although Erik ten Hag confirmed during the Christmas period that both players would be back in mid-January.

Martinez suffered a recurrence of a foot injury he initially sustained at the end of last season and had to undergo surgery for a second time in September. As a result, he’s made just six appearances this term. As for Casemiro, he has not played in nearly three months due to a knock, with his last appearance coming in the 2-1 victory over Brentford on 7 October.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference ahead of the Wigan Athletic cup tie tonight, Ten Hag said: "They [Casemiro and Martinez] are a long time already back on the grass and now they return back into team training but not fully, so partial. Now they have to make the next steps and that may take some days, I think even weeks.

"He [Hojlund] will return. He dropped out shortly before the game [against Forest] and so he was a little bit unwell before the game. The day before we expected him to play and then he dropped out shortly before the game but he is back in training."
