Manchester United are powering forward in their mission to sign Wolves star Matheus Cunha this summer. The Red Devils are looking ahead to what is shaping up to be a huge squad restructure once the season draws to a close.

United’s Premier League form has been wide of the mark again this campaign and Jim Ratcliffe has stressed his determination to get the club back up to the level the world knows it to be at.

Cunha is a name who has been firmly linked with Old Trafford for a while now and multiple reports continue to suggest a deal is on the horizon. Following their struggles in attack, United are hoping to significantly bolster their frontline with prolific new attackers, and Cunha is one of them.

What is the latest on Matheus Cunha to Man United?

As one of the most discussed transfer links right now, there’s plenty being said about United’s pursuit of Cunha. Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on the conversations, which are shaping up to be ‘very positive’ between the two parties.

“Manchester United are making progress on a daily basis on the Matheus Cunha deal. Very positive conversations. Manchester United management, Ruben Amorim, who is fully involved in this process, they are all looking in the same direction,” Romano said in a recent video for his YouTube channel.

“The Champions League is not a deal deal-breaker for the player. Matheus Cunha is still ready to accept the proposal from Manchester United. They need more, at least one more meeting, to fix some details. But my understanding is that United want to make it happen as soon as possible.”

The news that Cunha is not swayed by United’s potential lack of Champions League football will be music to the ears of the fans. As things stand, the Red Devils are 14th in the Premier League table, ten points adrift of the top ten. However, they could qualify if they win this season’s Europa League.

Man United planning multiple player sales

Along with those approaching the end of their contracts, others are also expected to leave Old Trafford this summer. Many of the same names have been doing the rounds for months now, and David Ornstein has provided a further update on who could be saying their farewells this year.

Ornstein recently responded to questions in his latest Ask Ornstein Q&A segment for The Athletic. One reader asked whether there was any truth behind the recent Alejandro Garnacho exit links.

“Yes, we understand this to be highly possible — if proposals are deemed suitable by Manchester United and Garnacho himself,” Ornstein replied.

“As we know, exits for the likes of Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, Antony, Tyrell Malacia, Casemiro and Rasmus Hojlund are also plausible, while the salaries of Christian Eriksen and Victor Lindelof will leave the wage bill.”

Ornstein also provided an update of his own on the Cunha saga, confirming that United are in a ‘strong position’ to get the deal over the line.

“We understand Cunha wants to join United but they will need to agree personal terms and, if that happens, trigger the release clause once it becomes active. I’m not aware of any contact with Wolves yet but that is not necessary at this point.

“So it’s technically not ‘close’ yet — but there is an expectation it could well develop pretty rapidly.”
