Marcel Sabitzer’s agent has hinted his client would be interested in joining Manchester United in a permanent transfer this summer.

The midfielder completed a short-term loan move to Old Trafford on January deadline day, and joined the Red Devils for the remainder of the season. The Austrian has largely impressed since then and has played four games for United.

It has been reported that the Premier League side could move to sign Sabitzer permanently in the summer, something his representative, Roger Wittmann, certainly left the door open to in a recent interview.

“Marcel is a top player. It doesn’t surprise me at all that he’s performing so well so quickly,” Wittman told German outlet Sport. “If you have as much experience as Marcel, whether in the Champions League or with his more than 60 international matches, it doesn’t take long to find your way around a club and a league like this.

"He loves this English hardness. It was clear from the start that the Premier League was a great fit for him. He’s an aggressive player. He does exactly what he can there. And that’s what’s needed there.

"At Manchester United we see Marcel from Leipzig again. I’m very happy for him," he added. "We’ll see when the time comes [this summer]."

Sport add Bayern’s asking price for Sabitzer would be higher than the €15m (£13.2m) the club paid to sign the Austrian international from RB Leipzig in 2021. Meanwhile, Ten Hag provided a small hint last week that the 28-year-old is in his long-term plans, when he said it’s important the player quickly gets on the same wavelength as his new United team-mates.

“We have to bring in a crucial position Sabitzer, and he has to know how to move in the timings of the occasions to create the right situations,” the Dutchman said after United’s 3-0 win over Leicester City at the weekend. “That takes time but we don’t have time, we have to win games so it has to go perfect. When you don’t, you see this league is tough and opponents are really competitive.”
