Manchester United hope to end their slump as they turn their attention to the Champions League as they welcome Atalanta to Old Trafford on Wednesday evening (20.00 BST).

The Red Devils were defeated 4-2 by Leicester City on Saturday, despite opening the scoring through Mason Greenwood and then Marcus Rashford tying up the game for 2-2 in the 82nd minute.

It brought to an end their 29-game unbeaten run on the road and compounded Ole Gunnar Solskjær’s team to a third defeat in six games in all competitions.

As their title charge takes a dip, United will now want to salvage their Champions League campaign, given they currently sit third in the group.

They have picked up three points from their opening two matches, losing 2-1 to Young Boys in early September before defeating Villarreal in dramatic fashion at the end of last month.

Opponents Atalanta meanwhile are top of the group on four points with a draw away against Villarreal, before a narrow 1-0 win over Young Boys in their second game.

The Serie A side come into the match after a 4-1 win against Empoli in which Josip Iličić scored a first-half brace, as well as a strike from Duvan Zapata. The win leaves them currently sixth in the Italian top flight, the same place as United in the Premier League.

This is the first competitive meeting between the two sides in European competition so United will be keen to beat a new opponent.

What’s the latest team news?

Anthony Martial, former Atalanta attacker Amad Diallo and Raphael Varane all miss out on Wednesday’s match through injury.

Harry Maguire made a quicker return than expected and played in the defeat to Leicester, given his captaincy, he should start again but Solskjaer may want to manage the fitness of one of his key players.

After his red card in United’s opening group game, Aaron Wan-Bissaka is now eligible to play after his ban was reduced to one game and is likely to replace Diogo Dalot, who had been playing in his place.

South American duo Fred and Edison Cavani could also be in line to play after missing Saturday’s match. The pair returned back late from international duty, playing at midnight on Friday, but now have a few training sessions under their belts.

What about the opposition?

In the Atalanta camp, they will be without their two wing-backs Hans Hateboer and Robin Gosens. In their place are former Chelsea defender Davide Zappacosta and Joakim Maehle.

They will also be able to call on Matteo Pessina, their match winner against Young Boys, as well as Berat Dijmsiti, who are absent due to a hamstring and hand injury.
