Manchester United were reportedly 'turned down' by Stuttgart manager Sebastian Hoeness over replacing Erik ten Hag in the summer.
United hierarchy sounded out a number of managerial options as they conducted their strategic review after the FA Cup final win over Man City, but ultimately decided Ten Hag was the best available candidate to lead their club forward.

Hide AdSir Jim Ratcliffe even held discussions with former Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel about potentially taking over at Old Trafford, but he wasn't the only Bundesliga coach United supposedly considered to turn their fortunes around.
German publication Bild claim United also contacted Hoeness about the potential vacancy but were soon alerted he had no interest in leaving Stuggart at the moment in time. The 42-year-old had just led Stuttgart to a shock second-place finish in the Bundesliga, ahead of Bayern Munich as they secured Champions League qualification
Hoeness could once again be a possible candidate to takeover at Old Trafford if they eventually make the decision to change manager, but it doesn't look like happening anytime soon.
Ten Hag is set to take charge of United when they host Brentford in the Premier League this weekend, a week after his future was discussed by club chiefs at their latest executive committee summit. While it is acknowledged the start to the season has not been good enough, it is still only early days in the season and things could change quickly after the international break.
