Manchester United have enjoyed a positive transfer window so far as they get down to business for the first time since Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s minority takeover at Old Trafford.

Joshua Zirkzee was the club’s first signing of the summer after joining from Bologna last week while on Thursday, the Red Devils announced a deal had been completed for highly-rated Lille defender Leny Yoro. United agreed a €62 million fee, plus a further €8 million in add-ons with the centre-back signing a five-year deal with the option of a further year. Yoro had initially been expected to join Real Madrid as the La Liga giants were said to be the player’s preferred destination but United pushed hard to land the player and got their man, also beating Premier League rivals Liverpool to a deal.

Now their next transfer deal could just be around the corner after transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reported personal terms had been agreed with Paris Saint-Germain star Manuel Ugarte. As reported by ManchesterWorld, Ugarte is one of the club’s top targets this summer but the club will need to sell some players before being able to fork out more funds for transfer arrivals. The likes of Scott McTominay and Casemiro are expected to leave this summer.

Providing an update on X, Romano said of United’s pursuit of Ugarte: “Manchester United have agreed on personal terms with Manuel Ugarte. Contract terms discussed, player keen on moving to United even without Champions League football. Club-to-club talks continue with PSG, as more clubs also inquired.”

Ugarte has the same agent as Yoro, Jorde Mendes, meaning his representatives have already come to one agreement with the Red Devils this summer. An earlier report from French outlet L’Equipe claimed Paris Saint-Germain are ‘expecting’ United to table an official bid for Ugarte ‘in the coming days’. PSG reportedly value Ugarte at £50m but it remains to be seen if United will table an offer that meet’s that valuation.

The player is under contract at the Parc des Princes until the summer of 2028. He started 21 Ligue 1 fixtures for PSG last season but was left on the bench on eight occasions. However, he played a key part in his country’s charge to third place in this year’s Copa América tournament. Uruguay, managed by ex-Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa, beat Brazil to reach the last four, where they were denied a shot at the final at the hands of Colombia. However, La Celeste were able to come away with the bronze spot after a thrilling 2-2 draw with Canada ended in Ugarte and co triumphing on penalties.
