Man Utd will complete their first signing under Ruben Amorim in the January transfer window.

Manchester United are set to complete a deal to sign Diego León from Cerro Porteño ahead of his official arrival at the club in the summer transfer window.

Manchester World revealed last week León would travel to Manchester this week and spend a 'few days' with the club before he returns to South America for international duty with the Paraguay U20 squad ahead of the upcoming South American Championship.

León arrived in Manchester over the weekend and is due to visit club facilities on both Monday and Tuesday. It is understood the defender will undergo his initial medical examinations and sign a pre-contract agreement to officially move to Old Trafford at the end of the season. Due to registration rules, the 17-year-old is not allowed to join United until he turns 18 in April.

United technical director Jason Wilcox played a key role in securing the deal, along with lead South American scout Giuseppe Antonaccio, who pushed for the move. United have identified South America as an untapped market for potential bargain buys and will continue to monitor the continent for future youth recruits.

Although viewed as a first-team signing, the teenage full-back could be given time in the youth set up to settle in his new environment, just as Sekou Kone has since he joined last summer. United will target another senior wing-back in the summer after head coach Ruben Amorim identified it as a priority position.
