Manchester United summer signing marks first youth-team appearance with remarkable 14-minute hat-trick

Chido Obi-Martin scored three goals inside a quarter of an hour in his first appearance for Manchester United.

Manchester United’s summer signing Chido Obi-Martin made an immediate impact on his first appearance for the club as he netted a remarkable 14-minute hat-trick.

The striker joined from Arsenal over the summer in a protracted deal that was only confirmed earlier this month - despite it being agreed in August. The transfer had to firstbe approved by the authorities, with the Gunners receiving a compensation package.

Obi-Martin turned down an option to remain with Arsenal in favour of joining United and there has been much excitement among the fans at the arrival of one of England’s brightest young talents.

If United fans needed further proof of that, his debut for the Under-18s only further underlined why Old Trafford scouts were so keen to secure his signature. Obi-Martin took just 13 seconds to score his first goal for United in Saturday’s league game at home against Nottingham Forest.

The 16-year-old capitalised on a sloppy pass back, before pushing the ball past the keeper and passing the ball into the empty net. His second came just four minutes later as he again took advantage of some poor defending and converted from the edge of the box.

Obi-Martin made it a hat-trick in the 14th minute as he finished first time with his left foot, to wrap up an incredible first game at Carrington. United led 5-0 at half-time courtesy of goals from James Scanlon and Amir Ibragimov.

Obi-Martin has already shown his pedigree at this level and scored 32 times in just 18 games for Arsenal Under-18s last season, while he also made headlines when he scored 10 goals in one match for the Under-16s against Liverpool.
