'He wants it really bad' - Manchester United star putting in extra training amid recent criticism
The Man Utd star was criticised following the victory over Fulham at the weekend.
Rasmus Hojlund is putting in extra training as he looks to overcome his recent struggles at Manchester United.
The 21-year-old has now gone 11 matches without a goal across all competitions and has netted just seven times in his last 28 appearances. He did not manage a single effort on goal before he was substituted during the 1-0 win over Fulham at the weekend and has only managed 12 shots in the Premier League this season.
Hojlund cut a disgruntled figure at Craven Cottage and complained about a lack of service from his teammates. Lisandro Martinez sympathises with the striker but believes both he and Joshua Zirkzee must also do better to impose themselves on matches.
Ruben Amorim wants to add another forward this month and could be in the market for a striker come the summer, amid growing concern over the lack of goal threat from the £100 million duo he has inherited upfront. There is still hope Hojlund can come good once he has had more time on the training ground under the new head coach, though he will need to show signs of improvement after a regressive start to the season.
Amorim believes the young striker has the desire required to turn his fortunes around and also revealed he stays behind after training in an effort to improve himself. “He wants it really hard and you can see it sometimes that without training, there is a disconnection,” Amorim said after the Fulham win. “We can explain, but without training sometimes it goes away, when he should be near, sometimes he’s near when he should make a run. We don’t have time to create this connection, we don’t train these kinds of things, we just talk about these things. He has a lot to improve, like his team-mates. Sometimes you have a good game, other days you cannot have a good performance.
“The important thing is that I see every day that he wants it really bad. He talks about that [he] wants to train a little bit more in the end of trainings and that is the best thing to improve. But as a footballer, and he’s a young guy, he has to understand that sometimes you have a bad game, but you have to continue to go to the next.”
