Manchester United star included in Rangers squad despite imminent transfer exit

The early team news ahead of Man Utd's clash with Rangers in the Europa League.

Antony has been included in the Manchester United squad to face Rangers tonight, despite the fact he is set to leave the club on loan in the January transfer window.

The 24-year-old has agreed a provisional move to Spanish club Real Betis, though a full agreement has not been finalised yet. It means Antony is still eligible to play for United until the deal has been concluded.

Ruben Amorim is happy to let both Antony and Tyrell Malacia leave the club on loan this month but only if they are replaced by the arrival of another wide player. The United head coach has prioritised the addition of a left wing-back this month, with talks underway to sign Lecce defender Patrick Dorgu.

Amorim is also eager to add another attacker to his squad, though it is likely United will have to make a major sale to fund such a move. They had hoped to sell forward Marcus Rashford, but with a lack of interest in his signature, they are open to selling fellow academy graduate Alejandro Garnacho as well.

Taking to social media earlier in the day, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano issued an update on Antony: “Understand Antony could be part of Man United squad again today while the clubs prepare/check documents for his transfer to Real Betis. Verbal agreement on loan remains done and not in danger, while United work on replacement. New bid for Dorgu from MUFC soon.”

United confirmed squad members vs Rangers: Onana, Bayindir, Heaton; Dalot, Martínez, Yoro, Maguire, De Ligt; Mainoo, Eriksen, Collyer, Ugarte, Fernandes, Casemiro; Højlund, Zirkzee, Antony, Amad, Garnacho.
