Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay hopes to be back 'soon' after he sustained an injury in their 1-1 draw with Burnley at the weekend.

The 27-year-old was brought on to replace Kobbie Mainoo in the second-half, but lasted just 26 minutes before he was substituted himself following a heavy knock to his knee.

McTominay appeared to be in some serious pain when he was taken off, which sparked fresh fears of another injury blow to Erik ten Hag's side.

However, the Scotland international has played down any serious injury concerns and issued an update on his fitness situation ahead of an important end to the season.

McTominay was Scotland's top scorer in qualification for the European Championship with seven goals, and will be a key figure for them this summer. He will also be looking to make a positive impact at club level as United look to defeat Man City in the FA Cup Final next month.

"I slipped and fell awkward on my knee, similar to against Chelsea," McTominay wrote on Instagram yesterday. "Nothing serious, just hyperextension, but I was angry and upset that I thought it was worse than it was.

"Hoping to be back on the pitch very soon to help the team as much as I can."

It means McTominay could be back in action as early as next Monday when United travel to face Crystal Palace in the Premier League.
