Manchester United 'reignite interest' in Premier League star as Reds 'willing' to activate £49m release clause

Your round-up of the latest Man Utd stories ahead of Saturday's trip to Brentford.

Manchester United are back in action this weekend, with Saturday's trip to Brentford a chance to kick-off their run-in. Erik ten Hag's side have had almost two weeks to enjoy their FA Cup victory over Liverpool but face a huge task in qualifying for next season's Champions League.

United have 10 games to overtake at least one of Aston Villa or Tottenham, but focus will only be on the short-term and Saturday's trip to the Gtech Community Stadium. In the meantime, ManchesterWorld has rounded up some of the latest headlines coming out of Old Trafford.

Toney still on the radar

United are thought to remain interested in signing Ivan Toney this summer with a new striker on the shopping list. HITC reports that the Brentford star is still admired by those in charge at Old Trafford and a move to a top club is looking likely.

Toney will enter the final 12 months of his contract this summer and Brentford are widely expected to cash in on their star, with reports suggesting he could cost as much as £90m. Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham are also huge fans of the 28-year-old, who scored his first goal for England against Belgium on Tuesday.

Ten Hag will prioritise signing another world-class striker this summer, following last year's £72m arrival of Rasmus Hojlund from Atalanta. The 20-year-old has shown plenty of promise but would benefit alongside a more experienced No.9.

Bremer release clause

United have been linked with a move for Gleison Bremer in recent months and reports from Italy suggest they could push forward with a move this summer. Calciomercato reports that they are 'willing' to activate the defender's release clause, believed to be between £43-49m.

Bremer is thought to be among United's top targets at centre-back amid what has been an excellent campaign with Juventus. The 27-year-old has more Serie A minutes than anyone else at the club and has been central to the league's second-strongest defence, conceding just 23 goals in 29 games.

Central defence will be a key area to strengthen at United this summer, with four of Ten Hag's five options uncertain over their futures. Raphael Varane and Jonny Evans look set to leave as free agents while both Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof could be sold.
