Manchester United put Aston Villa midfielder John McGinn on transfer ‘shortlist’
The Scotsman has been with the Midlands club since 2018.

McGinn, who plays as a central or holding-midfielder for his club and country, has been a pivotal part of Villa’s team since his arrival in the Midlands from Hibernian in 2018.
The 27-year-old has the leadership skills that United are currently missing, a key reason the Scottish duo rate him so highly.
A Scottish international, the midfielder is valued at £40m, and Steven Gerrard’s side will be reluctant to sell one of their best players, especially after allowing Jack Grealish to join Manchester City this summer.
What’s his form?
McGinn is one of several players in his position that the Red Devils are apparently interested in, however, with his experience of the league and ability to prevent, create and score goals, could be an ideal signing for the Manchester team.
He is averaging an overall average of 7.04 for club and country according to whoscored.com. The 27-year-old has significantly more tackles per game (2.7) than that of United’s midfielders, with Nemanja Matic with the lowest (1.1).
The Scotsman’s contract at Villa park doesn’t expire until 2025, meaning they’re under no pressure to sell him.
He has made 129 appearances in all competitions during his three-and-a-half seasons in the Midlands, scoring 16 goals and assisting his teammates on 21 occasions.
The Midfielder is no stranger to Red Devils’ player McTominay, with the pair playing internationally for Scotland.
