Manchester United predicted line-up to face Southampton including two key changes Ralf Rangnick could make

Despite a poor showing in midweek, Harry Maguire is expected to start against the Saints

Ralf Rangnick could make two key changes to his Manchester United team for the visit of Southampton on Saturday.

The Red Devils drew 1-1 against Burnley on Tuesday, with Edinson Cavani and Marcus Rashford struggling in the second period at Turf Moor.

Therefore, Rangnick may be tempted to replace the pair when the Saints come to Old Trafford this weekend.

The German has less options in midfield though, with Nemanja Matic and Fred out. Meanwhile, Alex Telles is available at left-back, but the United interim manager implied he might lack match fitness ahead of Saturday’s game.

“Alex resumed training yesterday [Thursday],” said Rangnick. “He might be available, I’ll have to speak to him after training today about how he feels because he was out for one and a half, almost two weeks but he took part in training yesterday.”

Rangnick also backed captain Harry Maguire in Friday’s press conference, so he is likely to start against Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side.

“I think he had an outstanding game versus West Ham,” said the 63-year-old. “We could have defended transitional moments better at Burnley but the rest of our defence was not really good. We should not have allowed the counter-attack to happen.”
