Manchester United lost 2-1 away at Brighton in their first Premier League away match of the new season.
Erik ten Hag made no changes from the side that defeated Fulham on opening night, which meant summer signings Joshua Zirkzee and Matthijs de Ligt remained on the bench from the start. Jadon Sancho did travel to the AMEX Stadium but wasn't named in the 20-man squad.
It was another step in right direction from a performance perspective, with United much improved in their pressing play against a Brighton side who are notorious for a similar tactical approach.
United started as the better side without creating too many chances and were made to pay when Danny Welbeck gave the home side the lead against his former club after some poor defending from Harry Maguire and Noussair Mazraoui.
Joshua Zirkzee replaced Mason Mount at the break but it was Brighton who began the better side after the restart as United began to look stretched.
Welbeck twice had the chance to double the lead for his side with headed efforts, while Diogo Dalot made an important goal line clearance to deny James Milner a goal.
They proved to be costly misses when Amad levelled the scores on the hour mark with a deflected effort after he cut inside from the right wing.
United were much improved following the equaliser and almost took the lead when substitute Alejandro Garnacho finished a brilliant counter-attack, only for it to be correctly ruled out for offside.
Ten Hag's side looked on course to hold on for a point before Joao Pedro headed in the winner in the fifth minute of added time after some dreadful defending.
Here is how we rated the United players in the match:
