Football and music are synonymous with Manchester. The two are passions of the people who live there and have helped put the city and the wider region on the map.

Two of the biggest names are of course Manchester United and The Stone Roses. United have had a direct connection to the Roses for many years, with the track ‘This Is The One’ being the club’s song for when walking onto the pitch at Old Trafford.

This month, a new collaboration between the club and the band has been unveiled. Produced by kit manufacturer Adidas, a range of merchandise including shirts and scarves have been released.

The players wore a Stone Roses-inspired warm up kit and pre-match jacket before their 2-1 win against Aston Villa on Sunday. The range has tributes to the band, including their famous lemon symbolism which has become a staple of The Stone Roses over the years.

Also included in the range are fleece tops, jackets and a Man Utd x Stone Roses bucket hat. The club hope that the new range will bring together old fans and new, whilst putting to the fore the importance of the Stone Roses.

As part of the launch, current players from both the men's and women's teams participated in an iconic photo shoot, paying homage to legendary portraits of The Stone Roses. A short film, 'Roses are Red', features players, legends, and fans showcasing the collection and highlighting what the anthem means to them. There are also appearances from ex-players Gary Neville and Wes Brown, as well as Courteeners lead singer Liam Fray.

James Holroyd, Chief Commercial Development Officer at Manchester United, highlighted the deep connection between The Stone Roses and the club's fan culture. He commented: "This collection recognises our joint histories in a way that connects with both older fans and the new generation of supporters."
