Manchester United know it is a case of Europa League or bust as they look to save their season and qualify for the Champions League. Ruben Amorim's side were knocked out of the FA Cup by Fulham at the weekend, denying them their best chance of a trophy this season and a pathway back into European competition.
United are only in the Europa League this season because they won the FA Cup last year and now their only likely way of getting back into Europe will be by winning the competition and securing a place in the Champions League. It is far easier said than done, though and United will need huge improvement if they are to get past Real Sociedad in the round of 16 and keep those dreams alive.
United were without 10 senior players for their FA Cup exit, though Patrick Dorgu will be available for selection against Sociedad in midweek. Chido Obi will not be able to feature in European competition for the remainder of the campaign, but he could get minutes in the Premier League.
