Manchester United issue Manuel Ugarte transfer deadline day update as Liverpool FC deadline missed

Man Utd are set to sign PSG star Manuel Ugarte on deadline day of the summer transfer window.

Manuel Ugarte has not been registered in time to make his Manchester United debut against Liverpool this weekend.

United have agreed an initial fee of €50m (£42m), and a further €10m (£8m) in potential add-ons, for the Uruguay international, who is set to become their fifth major signing of the window.

However, the 23-year-old will not be involved when United face Liverpool on Sunday afternoon because he was not officially registered with the Premier League before their deadline for the match.

While United have until 11pm on Friday to warp up any transfer business, Premier League registration rules state any new signing must be registered with the relevant authorities by 12pm the last working day before a match. It means even though United don't face Liverpool at Old Trafford until Sunday afternoon, Ugarte had to be registered by midday on deadline day to be involved.

Ten Hag was coy on when a deal might be completed but was still hopeful Ugarte would be a United player by the end of the window.

“It looks like you know everything so Simon (Stone), I can’t tell you more than you already know. It is not completed yet. Expect it? Yes we expect it but I can’t confirm it.”

Asked what United fans could expect from Ugarte that is different to Scott McTominay, he added: “To make the change, it is not a comparison that you can compare those players. We had three No 10s and we didn’t have any more holding midfield players apart from one so that is the idea.”
