But with mystery still surrounding the future of Paul Pogba, the Italian media have suggested that move could finally come to fruition this summer.

Corriere dello Sport have claimed the Red Devils are considering a summer move for Milinkovic-Savic and have suggested a fee of around £60million could be enough to seal the deal.

The report states United are in pole position to sign the midfielder as Lazio look to remould their squad with the proceeds from the transfer.

The Merseyside club are believed to be considering a move for Villarreal’s in-form forward Arnaut Danjuma and see the Dutch international as a possible replacement for Sadio Mane.

But the Daily Mail are reporting Danjuma is also on the radar of United, who watched on the forward scored the only goal of his side’s surprise Champions League quarter-final first-leg win against Bayern Munich.

Danjuma is believed to have a buy-out clause of around £64m in his current contract.

Juan Mata’s eight-year stay at Old Trafford could come to a close this summer when his current contract expires.

The Spaniard wants to prolong his career and the Manchester Evening News have reported several MLS clubs are willing to offer him the opportunity to do so in the United States.

Speaking to the club website earlier this week, Mata said: “Of course, I will be involved with Common Goal because that’s something that goes beyond football.

“It’s something that will last for much longer and it will stay there after I stop and many members stop, but my mind is 100 per cent committed to playing.”

As things stand, the likes of Paul Pogba, Edison Cavani, Jesse Lingard and Lee Grant are all heading for the exit when their current contracts come to an end.

But the Mirror have reported a number of players that were expected to leave will only be able to depart if replacements are signed.

That means the likes of Dean Henderson, Anthony Martial, Eric Bailly and Donny van de Beek all face an uncertain future.
