Manchester United handed Kobbie Mainoo injury boost but three stars miss training ahead of Lyon fixture
Man Utd team news and training squad to face Lyon in the Europa League quarter-final.
Kobbie Mainoo returned to Manchester United training ahead of their Europa League quarter-final first leg against Lyon on Thursday night. Ruben Amorim's side are set to record their lowest ever Premier League finish, but could salvage their season if they win the Europa League and qualify for the Champions League.
Amorim will hope to see a further improvement from their dismal weekend draw against Man City and could be boosted by the return of midfielder Mainoo to the match day squad. The 19-year-old has not played in two months, but could be on the bench when United face Lyon later this week.
It wasn’t all good news for United, though, with three senior stars absent from the training session at Carrington on Wednesday morning. Here is the latest injury news and squad update ahead of the Europa League clash.
Mainoo boost but three stars absent
Manchester United were boosted by the return of Kobbie Mainoo to first-team training on Wednesday morning, but three senior stars missed the session.
Matthijs de Ligt was not spotted after he missed the recent Manchester derby clash due to an injury he sustained in the Premier League defeat to Nottingham Forest a week ago. The 25-year-old is not expected to travel to France for the Europa League first leg later in the day.
Ayden Heaven is still not available after he suffered an injury against Leicester last month, while Toby Collyer is a fresh injury concern after he picked up a knock. The 21-year-old was not involved when United were held to a goalless draw by Man City last weekend.
United youngsters Jaydan Kamason and Jack Moorhouse both took part in the session. Chido Obi is not eligible to feature in the Europa League this season.
Manchester United confirmed training squad members
Onana, Heaton, Mee, Bayindir, Harrison; Dalot, Dorgu, Maguire, Amass, Kamason, Kukonki, Shaw, Yoro, Mazraoui; Eriksen, Casemiro, Moorhouse, Fernandes, Mainoo, Ugarte, Mount; Hojlund, Zirkzee, Garnacho.
