Romano tweeted: “The imminent appointment of Erik ten Hag won’t change Edinson Cavani’s future at Man United. He’s still expected to leave on a free transfer in June, with La Liga as [a] possible next destination.

“Jesse Lingard is also exploring and considering options on a free transfer.”

Cavani has been plagued with injury this campaign, only featuring 12 times in all competitions, while Lingard has played 19 times.

The latter has struggled for game-time in recent seasons and a move away could prove the best decision for him and United.

Lingard spent the second-half of the last campaign on loan at West Ham United, where he transformed his form, scoring nine goals in 16 games and assisting his teammates on five occasions.

Cavani is in his second season with the Red Devils and despite joining at the age of 34, proved he can be an important player for the club when fit.

The Uruguay international hasn’t featured for Ralf Rangnick’s side since their 1-1 draw with Burnley in February
