A number of Manchester United players returned to pre-season training on Monday morning as work begins ahead of the new campaign.

All senior members of Erik ten Hag's side who were not involved in international tournaments this summer were expected to report back for fitness tests, with Marcus Rashford one of the most notable arrivals at the Carrington training complex.

United later confirmed Harry Maguire, Mason Mount and Andre Onana also returned to training, with a light session taking place on Monday afternoon. Casemiro and Antony were also present amid their uncertain futures at the club along with youngsters Willy Kambwala and Will Fish.

Bruno Fernandes, Diogo Dalot, Christian Eriksen, Rasmus Hojlund and Scott McTominay are all entitled to three weeks off after their respective European Championship campaigns came to an end, while the same will apply to Luke Shaw, Kobbie Mainoo and Tom Heaton with England. However, given his limited involvement in the tournament, Shaw could cut the break short, while Heaton might also choose to return to club football as soon as possible. Alejandro Garnacho, Lisandro Martinez and Facundo Pellistri will also be entitled to three weeks off once their Copa America campaigns come to an end.

Mason Greenwood was also back at Carrington on Monday but was not involved in any of the training sessions. It was the first time the 22-year-old had been at the club’s training complex since January 2022 as he spoke to United’s leadership team about his future. United are looking to arrange a permanent departure for the academy product, with Greenwood in advanced talks with Marseille about a possible transfer.

United confirmed senior squad list for first pre-season session (not final):

Andre Onana, Amad, Victor Lindelof, Hannibal Mejbri, Harry Maguire, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Casemiro, Mason Mount, Antony, Marcus Rashford, Radek Vitek, Willy Kambwala, Will Fish.
