Manchester United striker Joe Hugill has joined Carlisle United on loan for the remainder of the season.
The 21-year-old underwent a medical with the League Two club on Friday before signing a deal that will see him stay with them until the end of the current campaign. It is set to be an eye-opening loan spell for the young striker, who joins the club rock bottom of the Football League, seven points from safety as they look to avoid relegation to the National League.

Hide AdHugill spent the first-half of the campaign with League One side Wigan Athletic and is now set to drop down a division as he searches for more regular playing time. Hugill scored five goals in 18 appearances during his time at Wigan and started their first six matches of the season before his playing time was significantly reduced.
Speaking after the deal was confirmed, Carlisle head coach Mike Williamson said: “We are delighted to have been able to bring Joe in. He’s somebody who we have been pursuing for a while. He gives us pace and power, and he’ll bring another dimension to our play. He’s got goals in him, so we’re delighted he’s chosen to come to us.”
Hugill will hope to prove his worth as Carlisle go in search of a great escape from their relegation battle and sporting director Rob Clarkson is hopeful the United youngster can play a big part in their survival hopes. He added: “We are delighted that Joe has chosen to join us for the remainder of the season. He is a goalscorer who adds real pace to our centre forward options. There was a lot of interest in Joe so we are very pleased he has chosen us as the right club for him at this stage in his career. We have been in contact with Manchester United for some time now and we thank them for their cooperation and allowing us to get this loan deal agreed."
Hugill has become United's third exit of the January loan window after Ethan Ennis joined Doncaster Rovers and Ethan Williams moved to Cheltenham Town. The club have also prioritised exits for both Dan Gore and Harry Amass this month.
