Manchester United confirm Antony injury status as defender returns to training ahead of West Ham

Manchester United are set to be without six injured players for Sunday’s Premier League game.

Manchester United have confirmed Antony will not be available for Saturday’s Premier League encounter against West Ham United on Saturday.

The Red Devils head to the London Stadium in 13th place on the back of Thursday’s 1-1 draw at Fenerbahce in the Europa League. It was a bruising affair for Erik ten Hag’s side, with Antony picking up an injury in the latter stages that forced him to be stretchered off.

There were fears it was a serious problem, but United have since confirmed the player sustained an ankle sprain - with a sense of relief that Antony won’t be out for a longer period.

Meanwhile, United had better news with Jonny Evans returning to training on Saturday. Given the travel demands of this week, the team flew directly to London from Turkey and trained at Leyton Orient’s Gaughan Group Stadium ahead of the West Ham clash.

Evans missed the Fenerbahce game with a knock but was involved with the group in training and should be an option this weekend. Bruno Fernandes is also back after sitting out the Europa League game through suspension.

United will also without Leny Yoro, Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw, Tyrell Malacia and Mason Mount for Sunday’s game. As for the Hammers, they are missing Mohammed Kudus, who was sent off against Tottenham Hotspur last week, and the injured Niclas Fullkrug.

Julen Lopetegui’s side have struggled in the early weeks of the season, with West Ham picking up just eight points so far. For United, a win could see them move into the top half after earning 11 points from eight games.
