Manchester United ‘approach’ Benfica over potential swap deal

Manchester United are eager to bolster their attack this summer.

Manchester United have been heavily linked with Benfica’s Darwin Nunez in recent months and are now reportedly considering a swap deal for the striker.

The Red Devils are thought to be keen on including Anthony Martial in a move for Nunez, according to journalist Ekrem Konur.

The 22-year-old has attracted plenty of interest from some of Europe’s biggest clubs due to his exceptional form in Portugal, scoring 26 goals in 28 league games this season.

However, reports claim that Benfica value Nunez at around £100 million, which could price United out of a cash only deal.

With the Premier League side considering including Martial in their approach, it could make Nunez’s hefty price tag a lot more manageable.

The United forward joined Sevilla on loan in January but only claimed one goal and one assist during his time in Spain.

While it is unclear whether Benfica would be interested in bringing Martial to Portugal, United will also face competition from the likes of Liverpool, Real Madrid and Barcelona for Nunez.

However, it is unlikely that their Premier League rivals would be able to afford the £100 million placed on the striker’s head and could rely on him forcing a move away, if he is eager to join Europe’s elite.

The Red Devils are set to lose Edinson Cavani once his contract expires this summer and could be left with little option in attack ahead of next season.
