Manchester United will be able to bring in some new faces this summer

Manchester United have two more Premier League fixtures left to play this season. They also have a Europa League final clash against fellow top flight side Tottenham Hotspur to look forward to in Bilbao. The Red Devils saw off Athletic Bilbao in the semi-final over two legs.

Ruben Amorim was picked as their manager earlier in this campaign to replace Erik ten Hag. The former Sporting Lisbon man has the chance to bring in some new signings this summer. He also has the opportunity to let some players head out the exit door.

Manchester United latest regarding Angel Gomes return talk

According to CaughtOffside, United are ‘considering hijacking’ Tottenham Hotspur’s pursuit of Lille midfielder Angel Gomes. He has been on the books at Old Trafford before and is now being linked with a return. The report adds that Everton, Crystal Palace, Napoli and Juventus are also keen on the player.

Gomes, 24, is out of contract at the end of next month and he is due to become a free agent as things stand. He is yet to put pen-to-paper on an extension in France. The playmaker is free to weigh up his options and consider his next move in the game.

The London-born man rose up through United’s academy and was a regular for them at various different youth levels. He went on to play 10 games for their first-team in his early career. The Red Devils also loaned him out to Boavista to get some experience under his belt.

Gomes’ move to Lille has worked out well for him. He has become one of their most prized assets and they now risk losing him for nothing. He has fired 10 goals in 124 outings for the French outfit.

What has been said about Manchester United target Angel Gomes this season?

Following his England call-up last September, Lee Carsley, who was in interim charge before Thomas Tuchel’s appointment, said this about Gomes: “Angel's different to what we've got in terms of a player who can play deeper but play like a ten. He's very skilful, the way he can receive balls, the way he can control games.”

Meanwhile, his former United youth coach Paul McGuinness said last year: "When you first see a player like that, they're always smaller than the rest. They stand out straight away from a physical point of view. You go, 'How is this kid playing with them? But then straight away, you realise why. His touch, control, his movement, his cleverness, all the techniques made him stand out. In every age group, he would be the smallest player - but he'd be the standout player as well."

He added: "That was always our thought of keeping smaller players We had that way at Manchester United for years with people like Jesse Lingard who was really small there before. Even though he's a giant now, Scott McTominay was tiny when he was younger. Tom Cleverley too. These were all players who were physically behind but our motto was 'Skill is King' and they would come to the fore eventually. It's great to see that happening now with Angel.”
