Manchester United wanted Fermin Lopez
United were keen on Barcelona midfielder Fermin Lopez in January along with Aston Villa but the player rejected advances from the pair, as per a report by Spanish news outlet SPORT. The 21-year-old, who is a Spain international with two caps to his name, ended up staying put beyond the deadline.
The Red Devils could have seen the player as someone to boost their options in the middle of the park. They will need to wait until the summer now if they are to make a swoop for him.
Lopez joined Barcelona back in 2016 from Real Betis and he has since risen up through their ranks. He initially broke into their B team before making the step up into the first-team after picking up some experience out on loan at Linares in the Primera Federación.

What now for Manchester United?
United will want to build some momentum now and rise up the table. They didn’t play too well against Leicester last time out but they got the job done.
Speaking afterwards, Amorim said: "We have to believe it until the end but this has nothing to do with the time of Fergie. I think we have to do so much better, with the ball, without the ball. We didn't have any energy in the beginning, especially in the first half. Then in the second half, we played a little bit better with a little bit more speed and winning second balls. Then we managed to turn things around and it was a good result but not a good performance."
He added: "It's everything, it's the performance, it's the result. I'm not thinking about the end of the season now, because the final is at the end of the season. I don't care about that, I care about the moment. The moment is clearly not good enough. It's a good result. We move forward to the next stage. We have a week to prepare [for our next league game] but today was not a good day."
