United started their winning run with a 2-0 victory over Sunderland - who have impressed upon their return to the top flight - while last weekend they clinched a 2-1 triumph over Liverpool at Anfield thanks to Harry Maguire’s 84th minute header.

It’s a result that puts United on 16 points from their opening nine games, and gives them hope that a push for the top four is more than possible. As things stand, Arsenal, Manchester City and Liverpool are considered the three main challengers for the Premier League.

However, Liverpool risk getting dragged into the race for the top four as their performances this campaign have been well below the level expected of a side who won the title last season.

What Ruben Amorim said about Man Utd win over Brighton

Speaking after the game, manager Ruben Amorim said: "I feel good. Three points at home. We played well and suffered in the end. A little bit our fault. They did everything. They ran. They played with the ball. They kicked the ball when it was needed. Good game."

He continued: "You feel better. Even when we arrived to play this game, I felt the environment with everybody here was different. It was not like overwhelm, there was excitement to play in front of our fans. Today is to enjoy, but tomorrow we need to prepare the next game.

"If you look at the table, one week can change everything. It can be so hard to have good feelings in our club, so we need to have that fear of returning [to a bad moment]."

On his side scoring four goals, Amorim added: "They have a lot of talent. I really liked the way the front three defended. Cunha did a really good job defending. It was completely different from the first games. Mbeumo is a working machine. Every time we kick the ball, Sesko was there.

"You can have all the talent in the world but if you don't fight in this league you have no chance."
