Man Utd’s Jesse Lingard ‘keen to hear’ from Newcastle, with Tottenham & West Ham ‘interested’ in January move

Newcastle United, Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United all want to sign Jesse Lingard this month, according to reports.

Sky Sports claim the Manchester United midfielder is keen to hear from the Magpies, who have made an approach for the 29-year-old and is said to be impressed by their recent acquisition of Kieran Trippier.

According to Sky Sports, Newcastle are the Red Devils’ preferred location for Lingard, rather than a top-four rival, with both Spurs and West Ham in the fight for a Champions League spot and it’s claimed United, understandably, don’t want to strengthen a direct competitor.

They also claim United are not interested in a loan move for Lingard, who has no intention of signing a contract extension with his boyhood club.

Earlier on Thursday, BBC Sport reported the Red Devils had rejected a loan offer from the Magpies, with a permanent deal now seeming the most likely way out of Old Trafford for the No.14.

Lingard’s dismal 2021/22

When Lingard blasted the ball into the back of the West Ham net in September, it seemed like maybe his United career was back on track.

But against the side who offered his career a brief revival, that goal, which secured a late 2-1 win, was another example of Lingard’s wasted talent.

During his loan spell at the London Stadium, he scored nine and registered five assists in 16 games, and was linked with a switch back there in the summer.

But Lingard remained at United where neither Ole Gunnar Solskjaer nor Ralf Rangnick have given him any real game time this term. In fact, he’s played just 14 times and has only started on two occasions.

This is a player, after all, who was in the England squad at the start of the season, but needs to be playing regular football as he rapidly approaches his 30s.

It seems his United career is winding to a close, and there’s little sense in him remaining at the club beyond January.
