Man Utd’s biggest 15 flops from the last 10 years, including £80m transfer and Cristiano Ronaldo - gallery
A look at some of Manchester United’s worst signings across the last decade.
Manchester United have had their fair share of transfer flops over recent years, but who are the biggest?
The Red Devils haven’t been particularly clever in the transfer market over the last decade, struggling significantly with their recruitment policy following the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson. United have spent huge amounts of money and with little return, and while there has been improvement under Erik ten Hag over recent month, it’s hard to forget some of the flops signed by previous managers.
Here we go through 15 of United’s biggest flops over the last decade in no particular order.
Take a look below...

1. Henrikh Mkhitaryan
Mkhitaryan arrived on a fee worth between £27million and £30million. He was included in a swap deal for Alexis Sanchez just 18 months later.

2. Victor Valdes
Valdes arrived for free, so there was nothing lost in way of a transfer fee, but the goalkeeper was a giant of the European game from his days as a Barcelona goalkeeper. He only made two league appearances for United.

3. Paul Pogba
This one may well divide opinion. At times, Pogba was actually very good for United, but he wasn’t consistent over his second spell at the club. He makes this flop list because he signed for £89million and left for nothing having won only the Europa League and Carabao Cup. Pogba may have flashed with some brilliance, but he didn’t live up to expectation.

4. Daniel James
James only cost United £15million, but it was hoped the winger would become a star at Old Trafford. He didn’t, and in truth, the Welshman is still struggling to find his place after leaving the club.
