All the latest news surrounding Manchester United as they continue to ponder Erik ten Hag’s future.

Manchester United continue to take their time over Erik ten Hag, with a decision over the Dutchman’s future still not forthcoming. The Red Devils won the FA Cup to salvage European football, but that achievement did not hide the hugely disappointing Premier League season that came before it.

Any transfer plans for this summer could centre around Ten Hag’s future, with any new manager likely to want his own signings. As United continue to ponder their decision, we have rounded up all the latest news surrounding Old Trafford.

Koopmeiners links

United are said to be hopeful of signing Atalanta star Teun Koopmeiners this summer after his impressive campaign that helped his side yield a Europa League title. Calciomercato have reported that United are willing to pay at least £54million to get a deal done, though Atalanta may charge as much as £64million.

Koopmeiners is currently preparing for Euro 2024, and it will be worth keeping an eye on his performances, with good international tournaments usually causing a hike in the valuations of players. United , meanwhile, need midfielders this summer after finding themselves short there - and indeed in other areas - last term.

Southgate claim

With Ten Hag’s future still not clear, there has been plenty of speculation over who the Red Devils may turn to if they do decide to move on. According to Harry Redknapp, England boss Gareth Southgate is may end up being the preferred target.

He told talkSPORT: “No, I love Poch. Yeah, Poch is free. I mean, would they get rid of Ten Hag and go to (Poch)? “I think Southgate is the man they really want. That’s my, but I love Poch, you know. He has got to get back. He will be back in soon somewhere, that’s for sure. So, it will be interesting, but I think I’ve just got a feeling Southgate ticks all the boxes with the people that run the club.”

Southgate spoke about his future recently amid an expiring contract with the FA. He said: "Well, for me, it's not an issue and never has been. I have to deliver a successful tournament for England and there's enough work involved in that. I think everybody would expect that's where my focus should be."

He added on United links: “There will always be speculation about managers, because if you lose a couple of games, you're in trouble - you win a couple of games and it is a different agenda. But for me, it [Euro 2024] is a brilliant opportunity. We're looking forward to the tournament. My focus is on how do we go a step further than we went in the last Euros [when they were beaten on penalties in the final by Italy]."

Branthwaite claim

Speaking of Southgate, Jamie Carragher has criticised the England boss for leaving a reported United transfer target out of his final Euro 2024 squad in Everton man Jarrad Branthwaite.

“Lots of bigger names than Jarrad Branthwaite have missed out on the England squad, but he should’ve been picked to go to Euro 2024,” Carragher wrote on X. “He’s England’s present and future.”
