Manchester United return to action this weekend against Manchester City.

The Red Devils are currently fifth in the table, with 12 points from their first six matches, and could move into the top four with a win, depending on results elsewhere.

For their part, City are second with 17 points, and will have their sights set on moving to the top of the table with a positive result at the Etihad.

In the meantime, however, there is still plenty of transfer news to work through surrounding the Red Devils...

Oblak price set

United could secure a cut-price deal for Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak this winter, according to Fichajes.

The Slovenian international is widely regarded as one of the best stoppers in world football, but could reportedly be available for as little as £27 million in January.

The Red Devils are understood to be in the market for a new goalkeeper amid ongoing uncertainty over David de Gea’s long-term future at Old Trafford.

And after emerging as a potential target in recent days, it is claimed that Oblak could be available for a “laughable” bargain fee.

Tottenham Hotspur are also being touted for a possible swoop.

Martinez on United radar

Another option between the sticks is Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martinez, according to Football Insider.

United are said to be “keeping close tabs” on the Argentine star, and it is claimed that the 30-year-old is highly rated by the Red Devils’ recruitment team, who regard him as “one of the best keepers in the Premier League.”

It is suggested that Villa value the player at around £45 million, having tied him down to a new long-term contract in January of this year.

Gakpo ‘remains a leading target’

PSV Eindhoven winger Cody Gakpo “remains a leading target” for United, according to Forbes.

The Red Devils were linked with a move for the 23-year-old in the late stages of the transfer window, but instead completed a deal for Brazilian star Antony.

Erik ten Hag reportedly still has one eye on Gakpo, and would ideally like to sign the player “in the next 12 months.”

Lingering interest in the Dutch international is framed in the context of Cristiano Ronaldo’s future at Old Trafford, with Forbes claiming that it is “highly likely” the veteran forward will leave in the next year - providing both the need for a new attacking player and the space on United’s wage bill to justify a swoop for Gakpo.
