Erik ten Hag has confirmed Manchester United will be without Anthony Martial for their Premier League clash against Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford on Wednesday evening, while he will have to ‘wait’ to see if Christian Eriksen will be fit for the fixture.

Martial suffered an injury during the Red Devils warm up before the Everton game on October 6, but started the match before being substituted in the just before the half-an-hour mark. He has missed United’s last two fixtures due to the issue.

“Anthony Martial is not available back on the pitch but not in team training,” Ten Hag said in his pre-match press conference on Tuesday. “[With Christian] Eriksen, we have to wait. He was just on the pitch. We have to see how he recovers from that and then we will make a decision tomorrow.”

Meanwhile, Harry Maguire, Donny vans de Beek, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Brandon Williams, and Axel Tuanzebe remain unavailable for selection for Ten Hag. However, the Dutchman will have Scott McTominay and Martin Dubravka to select from after the former’s suspension and the latter being ineligible against Newcastle.

"I see good progress from Brandon," Ten Hag continued. "He returned on the pitch, individual base. Axel is still working inside, he is not back on the pitch, I think it will be difficult for Axel to return before Christmas. Brandon may not be in the squad for the games but probably team training.”

Wednesday’s meeting between both clubs will be their 61st in the Premier League with the Red Devils being victorious on 38 occasions, including a 3-2 win over Spurs at Old Trafford last campaign. However, this will be Ten Hag’s first time facing Antonio Conte, whose Tottenham team currently sit two place above United in the table in third.

Ten Hag has praised Conte for the success he has achieved in Italy and England. The Spurs’ boss won the Premier League while in charge of Chelsea in 2017 and the FA Cup the following year.

"He’s a fabulous manager, winning titles, trophies in the Premier League, Italy and you can really see his signature in the match from his team. That’s a big compliment I think,” Ten Had added.
