Manchester United suffered a disappointing setback on Tuesday, with the news that Mason Mount is set to miss this weekend’s Premier League clash against Nottingham Forest.

A minor injury means the England international won’t be involved at Old Trafford on Saturday, while he is also expected to be unavailable for the Arsenal clash eight days later.

“Mason Mount is set to miss Saturday’s game against Nottingham Forest due to an injury picked up in last weekend’s encounter with Tottenham Hotspur,” United said via their website. “The small complaint is expected to keep Mount out until the international break next month.”

Mount joins an ever-growing injury list at United, with Tyrell Malacia, Kobbie Mainoo and Amad all suffering issues in pre-season which have prevented them playing so far this campaign, and the trio will also miss the clash against Forest.

Tom Heaton is also not likely to be fit due to injury, while Ramsus Hojlund is another who is expected to miss out with a back issue he picked before his arrival from Atlanta. The Danish international has been training at Carrington since signing for the club, with Erik ten Hag monitoring his workload.

Meanwhile, Forest also have a plethora of injury issues ahead of this weekend’s trip to Manchester. Brazilian centre-back Felipe hasn’t been involved at all this season due to an ongoing knee problem, while Moussa Niakhate is still recovering from a dislocated shoulder he suffered in pre-season.

Wayne Hennessey is also expected to miss out, with summer signing Matt Turner due to start between the sticks for the Midlands side, with Omar Richards, Harry Toffolo and Giulian Biancone remaining long-term absentees.

Ola Aina is the only doubt for Forest after he missed last week’s win over Sheffield United with a groin issue, and the defender could return in time for Saturday. Speaking after the Blades victory, Steve Cooper also said attackers Taiwo Awoniyi and Brennan Johnson are unlikely to be fit to start at Old Trafford.

“The likes of Brennan and Taiwo are nowhere near 90 minutes ready because of the pre-season and the injuries they had," explained the ex-Swansea City boss.. “Taiwo’s not really match-fit, same with Brennan.”

Doubt: Maguire (United); Aina (Forest) Out: Heaton, Malacia, Mainoo, Mount, Amad, Hojlund (United); Hennessey, Niakhate, Felipe, Richards, Toffolo, Biancone (Forest).
