Manchester United and Manchester City will meet in the FA Cup final at the end of the season, the first time there’s been an all-Manchester final in the competition.

The Red Devils progressed to the showpiece occasion thanks to victory over Brighton & Hove Albion in the semi-finals. After a goalless 120 minutes, penalties were required at Wembley, with Solly March missing the decisive spot-kick before Victor Lindelof converted from 12 yards out to hand United a 7-6 win.

It was an underwhelming display from Erik ten Hag’s side, who were second best for long spells but benefited from some poor Brighton finishing. United have also eliminated Everton, Reading, West Ham United and Fulham from this year’s competition.

As for City, they beat Sheffield United in Saturday’s first semi-final. It was certainly a more comfortable afternoon for the Blues, who won 3-0 via thanks to a Riyad Mahrez hat-trick, although City barely got out of second gear against the Championship outfit.

The Premier League champions have eliminated Chelsea, Arsenal, Bristol City and Burnley from the FA Cup this season, with Pep Guardiola aiming to win the tournament for a second time.

The United vs City finals means both domestic trophies will end up in Manchester at the end of the 2022/23 season, with the Red Devils already winning the Carabao Cup. City will hope to prevent United from claiming the double, while Ten Hag’s side could potentially stop their local rivals from winning a treble, a feat only United have achieved in English football.

Ten Hag vs Guardiola

The managers have come face to face twice already this season, with City winning 6-3 at the Etihad, with Erling Haaland and Phil Foden netting hat-tricks. United won the reverse meeting at Old Trafford however, with a 2-1 victory one of Ten Hag’s best results since taking over.
