Brandon Willaims has joined Ipswich Town on loan for the 2023/24 campaign.

The Manchester United defender was among a number of players the Red Devils were keen to sell this summer, but a loan move has instead been agreed for the academy graduate.

Williams played five matches in pre-season for the Red Devils and has made 51 senior appearances. With his contract at Old Trafford set to expire next summer, it’s likely the full-back has played his final match for the club.

Williams will team up with former United coach Kieran McKenna at Portman Road. The Northern Irishman was part of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s backroom team at Old Trafford, and guided the Tractor Boys to promotion last term.

McKenna has also made a superb start to the 2023/24 campaign and Ipswich are top of the Championship table having beaten Sunderland, Stoke City and Queens Park Rangers in their opening three matches.

For Williams, it will also mean a return to East Anglia, and the 22-year-old spent a season on loan at Ipswich's bitter rivals Norwich City in 2021/22. He returned to Old Trafford last summer and suffered from injury in the first half of the campaign. Williams made one appearance under Erik ten Hag - in a 2-0 Carabao Cup win over Burnley, and made four appearances for the Under-21 side in the second half of the season.

Via a statement on the club website, United said: "Everybody at United would like to wish Brandon the best of luck for the campaign."

Meanwhile, United also confirmed Noam Emeran has joined Dutch side Groningen. The winger has never made a senior competitive appearance for the Red Devils but did score in the pre-season win over Leeds United earlier this summer.

The 20-year-old joined United from Amiens in 2019 and scored five goals in 15 league appearances for the Under-21 side last season.
