When Sir Jim Ratcliffe was confirmed as Manchester United’s new part-owner in February, he immediately stated that his aim was to restore the club to its former glory within three years, while ultimately knocking rivals Manchester City and Liverpool off their perch.
That process will begin to take place in the upcoming summer transfer window and a huge factor in realising that goal will be recruitment, which is an area where many fans feel the club has fallen short in the past.
As it stands, Monday’s humiliating 4-0 defeat to Crystal Palace leaves further clouds around the future of Erik ten Hag, but regardless of who is in charge next summer, with the possible introduction of sporting director Dan Ashworth, there are bound to be plenty of comings and goings at Old Trafford in the coming months.
With that in mind, based on recent speculation, we take a look at six players Manchester United could look to sign in the summer - and six who are likely to move onto pastures new in the coming months.
1. Out: Jadon Sancho
Jadon Sancho was involved in a high-profile feud with Erik ten Hag earlier in the season. As it stands, it appears the pairs relationship cannot be fixed. Since leaving Old Trafford, the 24-year-old has rediscovered his best form and therefore could be tempted to stay in the Bundesliga on a permanent basis.
2. Out: Anthony Martial
Anthony Martial has struggled with form and injuries in recent seasons and is unlikely to remain at Old Trafford when his contract expires in the summer.
3. Out: Jonny Evans
Many eyebrows were raised when Jonny Evans returned to the club on a one-year deal last summer. The 36-year-old is expected to retire from football when his contract expires at the end of the season.
4. Out: Tom Heaton
Tom Heaton is expected to leave Manchester United when his contract expires in the summer. The 38-year-old has featured sporadically in cup competitions since arriving in 2021.
