Man Utd transfers: 11 players who could join for free this summer - gallery

We’ve had a look at some cheaper options for Manchester United in the transfer market.

With just a week remaining of the Premier League season, the focus and attention of most clubs is beginning to turn towards the summer transfer window.

Manchester United are no exception, albeit their situation is complicated by what’s happening with a potential takeover. Erik ten Hag is growing frustrated with the club’s inability to make concrete transfer plans, although top priorities have been identified.

United’s chief aim is to sign a centre-forward, and Harry Kane and Victor Osimhen are seen as primary targets. But the Red Devils also want to add a right-back, centre-back, at least one midfielder and potentially another winger depending on how the summer pans out, and the club’s hierarchy are already putting together tentative plans.

Meanwhile, there are also departures to consider, with the likes of Dean Henderson, Harry Maguire, Scott McTominay, Donny van de Beek and Anthony Martial among the players Ten Hag is willing to sell. Phil Jones and youngster Ethan Galbraith have already confirmed their departures on a free, while Tom Heaton could still depart and decisions need to be made about on-loan players Jack Butland, Marcel Sabitzer and Wout Weghorst.

David de Gea is another whose future is up in the air, but he is expected to sign a new deal before his contract expires at the end of the campaign. Signing players on a free is an avenue United could look to explore in the market, especially given the uncertainty over transfer budgets. We’ve picked out 11 players whose contracts are up this summer and could join the Red Devils for nothing...
