Manchester United are set to sanction a late exit in a dramatic transfer twist

Manchester United are poised to sanction a late deadline day exit after rebuffing an earlier offer for one of their players on Monday.

It has been widely reported that the Red Devils are not expected to complete any more signings before the 11pm deadline. Ahead of the final day of trading the club had eyed moves for Mathys Tel and Christopher Nkunku. Tel made a surprise u-turn and is poised to join Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur while Nkunku is said to be eager to fight for his place at Chelsea. A late offer to take the striker on loan to Old Trafford was rejected by the Blues.

United have secured the arrivals Patrick Dorgu and Ayden Heaven with Ruben Amorim able to provide more options in his defence but the Red Devils has not been able to sign the striker he desires to address United’s lack of goals.

Curley set for exit

In a surprise twist, teenage midfielder Ruben Curley is set to leave United and join Championship side Stoke City in the final hours of deadline day. Football Insider claimed on Monday morning Stoke City had expressed an interest in signing the 19-year-old and offered to take him on loan, but the player was set to remain at Old Trafford for the second half of the season.

Now in a late twist, the same outlet has revealed that the player is currently undergoing a medical with the Championship club ahead of what will be a permanent exit. Curley is entering the final months of his contract at United but the club retain a one-year option. That will give them more bargaining power when it comes to finalising a transfer fee.

The midfielder has featured seven times in the Premier League 2 this season, as well as making one appearance in the EFL Trophy. Stoke are 18th in the Championship table and eager to reinforce their ranks in the final hours of the window. Stoke are managed by former United player Mark Robins.

What next for Man Utd?

After losing 2-0 to Crystal Palace in the Premier League on Sunday, United turn their focus to the FA Cup as they welcome Leicester City to Old Trafford on Friday night. Amorim is hoping for an improved performance as he reflected after the loss to Palace: "I think the performance improve, not a lot, but I think we play better than the other games. Even against Southampton, I think we play better today. But of course, when you continue to lose, especially at home, you have that feeling that it means nothing, the small improvement of the team. So let's go again and see the next game.

“We have to improve as a team to score goals, and we are trying the best to improve the team. This market is really hard on the clubs, to make some deals here, it’s hard. Then you have this urgency, sometimes when you are in this moment, you make some mistakes, we are trying everything. We want so bad to improve, I want so bad to improve the team, I know what the team needs, but sometimes it’s possible or not, but we are trying everything."
