Man Utd left-back search: Seven defenders linked with Old Trafford transfer - gallery

Manchester United are in the market for a new full-back following Luke Shaw’s injury.

Manchester United’s final days of the summer transfer window are expected to be frantically busy, with the Red Devils hoping to fill three positions.

A new goalkeeper should arrive imminently in the form of Turkish stopper Altay Bayindir, with Dean Henderson set to join Crystal Palace in a permanent deal. United also hope to add a new midfielder, and Sofyan Amrabat and Ryan Gravenberch are understood to be high on the club’s list, while reports on Tuesday have claimed talks have begun over the possibility of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg signing from Tottenham Hotspur.

Yet it’s left-back that looks less certain, and United have been linked with a plethora of potential signings. A long-term injury to Luke Shaw has forced Erik ten Hag into the market, in addition to an injury suffered by Tyrell Malacia earlier this summer. To compound matters, United also allowed left-backs Alex Telles and Brandon Williams to depart this window, before Shaw picked up his muscular issue. Youngster Alvaro Fernandez played on the left of a back four in pre-season, but it doesn’t appear Ten Hag is confident in the 20-year-old’s ability to step up to the first team.

It means United are without a senior left-back, and were forced to play Diogo Dalot in that role at the weekend, as the Red Devils beat Nottingham Forest 3-2 at home. By the time Ten Hag’s side travel to Arsenal on Sunday, they will hope to have brought in another defender to help fill that void.

Below, we’ve rounded up all the major reports on United, and all seven left-backs who have been linked with a move to Old Trafford…
